Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has shed light on some of the challenges women encounter in the entertainment industry, particularly addressing the issue of sexual harassment. Speaking on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM, she acknowledged that while sexual harassment exists in various spheres of life, it is especially prevalent in showbiz.

Recalling a personal experience, Akofa revealed that she once lost a movie role after refusing to engage in a sexual relationship with a film director. She recounted an incident where she was asked by the director to come to his room under the pretext of watching a movie, but she declined, sensing his ulterior motives.

Despite not succumbing to the director\'s advances, Akofa discovered that she was not cast for the subsequent movie, allegedly because the director was in charge of the casting. This experience underscored the challenges women face in the industry, where sexual favours are sometimes exchanged for roles.

Throughout her career, Akofa emphasized that she has remained steadfast in her talent and has never compromised her integrity by giving in to such demands. She urged aspiring female artists to believe in their abilities and resist the pressures of manipulative individuals.

Joining Akofa on the show were other women from the creative industry, including comedian Jacinta Ocansey, event executive Whitney Boakye-Mensah, and musician Mimi Andani. Their discussion shed light on the importance of empowering women in showbiz and creating a safer environment free from harassment and exploitation.

Showbiz A-Z, a popular program on Joy 99.7 FM, airs on Saturdays from 2 pm to 6 pm, providing a platform for insightful discussions on various aspects of the entertainment industry.
